Daffodils prefer well-drained but moist, humus-rich soil in sun or partial shade. Avoid very dry areas, such as under conifers. Plant them informally in groups; they are ideal for rock gardens, containers, and terraces.
With a mixed flowering height, daffodils should be planted at a depth of 12 cm (5 inches) and spaced 10 cm (4 inches) apart. The best planting time is from August onwards.
