How To Build Your Own Lemax Christmas Village

Building your own Lemax Christmas Village is one of those things that just makes you smile. You start with one little house, maybe a tree or two, and before you know it, you’ve created a whole snowy world on your table. It doesn’t have to be perfect. In fact, that’s part of the fun. Here are a few ideas to help you get started.

1. Start with a theme
Think about what kind of place you want to build. A cosy mountain town? A busy festive square? Or maybe something a bit quirky that only you would dream up. Lemax collections already have their own little worlds, but you can always mix pieces if you like. That’s what makes it yours.

2. Imagine the little stories
It’s not just about houses and lights. It’s about what’s happening in between. Picture kids throwing snowballs, someone walking their dog, or a couple pausing under a lamp while the snow falls. Those tiny moments make everything feel alive.

3. Gather your bits and pieces
Once you’ve got your theme, start collecting. Write down what you still need—maybe a few extra figures or some new lights—but also keep an eye out for things you already have. A handful of moss from the garden, a few pebbles, even cotton for snow. Sometimes the simplest things look the most natural.

4. Pick a good spot
You’ll want a place where your village can stay for a while, somewhere you can actually see it. Close to a plug if you’re using lights. Set everything down loosely first to see if it fits before you start arranging it properly.

5. Build a base that works for you
Some people use foam, others wood or cardboard. Whatever you have at hand is fine. Add a little backdrop if you can—painted sky, snowy hills, a few trees in the distance. It doesn’t need to be fancy; it just adds depth.

6. Sort out your lighting
Before fixing anything, check where you want the glowing houses and moving pieces. Run the cables carefully so they’re out of sight. It’s worth the extra minute now, trust me, it’ll look tidier later.

7. Add a bit of texture
Once the setup feels right, start decorating. Sprinkle some artificial snow, glue down small stones, or tuck bits of moss around the houses. A little unevenness actually makes it feel more real, like a lived-in place.

8. Bring in the people
Start at the back and work your way forward, so you don’t knock anything over. Place the figures where they make sense—kids near the ice rink, maybe someone standing outside the bakery. Adjust things until it feels natural.

9. Finish with the details
This is the moment where your village comes to life. A small pond, a sparkle of snow on the rooftops, a tree lit softly in the corner. Step back every now and then and just look. You’ll see what’s missing, or maybe realise it’s already perfect the way it is.

A Lemax village isn’t just decoration. It’s a little world you build with your own hands. Each year, you’ll add something new, and it will slowly grow—just like the memories that come with it.
