Alliums thrive in a variety of soils as long as there is good drainage. They prefer sunshine, but their flowers will last longer in partial shade. These plants are valuable for group plantings in borders or for naturalizing, blooming year after year. They also make excellent, long-lasting cut flowers. Plant them at a depth of 10 cm (4 inches) and a distance of 5 cm (2 inches), with a flowering height of 30 cm (12 inches). Alliums can be planted in either autumn or spring.
